Today, December 16, 2024, we are sharing an exciting organizational update, signaling a next step in the evolution of the Monad blockchain: the Monad Foundation, an independent organization dedicated to encouraging the development and adoption of the Monad blockchain protocol.

The Monad Testnet is the first publicly available version of the Monad Protocol ("Monad"). The goal is to provide a safe and risk-free environment for developers to experiment, and communities to interact with dApps before they go fully live on Monad Mainnet.

The first ever Monad hackathon, evm/accathon, will take place from February 26th - March 12th. It begins with a 2 day in-person event at ETHDenver, followed by a 2 week online portion.

A common question that we get is: “why not implement Monad as a rollup?” There are a few major reasons...

In the past 3 years, over four billion dollars of assets have been lost due to on-chain exploits; these losses serve as one of the largest deterrents to the mainstream adoption of decentralized apps. A major contributor to this problem is that implementing security measures in smart contracts on Ethereum is expensive. In the battle to minimize gas costs for users, Ethereum developers frequently feel pressure to forego additional safety checks.

This cycle gave us a glimpse into the potential of blockchain. Between DeFi, NFTs, gaming, social media, and numerous other applications, crypto showed that it can have real world use. Regardless of the applications being built, they will not be prepared for mass adoption until the blockchains they are built on can support it.

Looking around right now, there’s a fair bit of pessimism about crypto.
